Read the size marking

What does “44 □ 18 – 133” mean?

This example shows three dimensions in millimetres. Many frames print them on the inside of the temple; confirm the model specification if the marking is absent or unclear.

44 mm

The horizontal width of one lens opening. It is not the overall frame width.

18 mm

Bridge / DBL

The specified distance between the lens openings. The bridge shape and nose contact also matter when checking a sample.

133 mm

The length of the entire temple arm, from the hinge to the tip. A photograph of only the straight section is not a full temple measurement.

The marking is a dimension reference, not an age label or a fit guarantee. Lens width × 2 + bridge width does not establish the actual outside width of the frame.

Define the width before comparing it

“Frame width” can refer to different endpoints in supplier documents. In your RFQ, specify the measurement and request a marked photograph or drawing for the exact model.

Overall front width
For this guide, the maximum horizontal outside width of the frame front, measured straight across in front view. Keep the outer rim and endpieces in the measurement.
Hinge centre distance
The straight distance between the left and right hinge centres. Record it separately; do not relabel it as overall outside width.
Lens opening width
A single lens opening dimension. Rim thickness, endpieces and frame curvature are not captured by adding two lens widths and a bridge number.

For curved or shield styles, also agree on the front-view measurement method. Request the model drawing or a measured sample instead of estimating outside width from an image.

These references use the dimensions recorded for each linked model. They are examples for comparison, not recommended age bands or confirmation of current stock.

Turn dimensions into a sample brief

Age, destination market and labels such as “Asian fit” do not establish a fit result for a particular model. Review the nose contact, temple position, front width and retention on samples for your intended users.

  1. 1. Identify the exact model

    Share the product link, colour reference and size marking. Similar model codes can refer to different products.

  2. 2. Specify missing dimensions

    Request outside front width, hinge distance or other drawing dimensions with agreed endpoints and tolerances.

  3. 3. Approve a reference sample

    Record the sample, configuration and fit observations before confirming the production specification.
