| Visuelles Aussehen | Voller, verspielter, bunter | Schlanker, erwachsener |
| Lens thickness support | Strong, good for high prescriptions | Limited, best for thinner lenses |
| Typisches Alter | 4–12 | Older juniors and teens |
| Market share in kids' category | Dominant | Sekundär |
Where Half-Rim Actually Belongs
In our experience exporting to Europe and Japan, half-rim orders come from optical companies that already sell full-rim to younger kids. They add half-rim as a "junior" step. The child is older, more careful, and wants glasses that do not look childish. Sport styles are the other fit. The open lower rim gives a wider downward view, which helps when a child looks at a ball or a page.
The Objection We Hear Most
Buyers often tell me, "Half-rim is not safe for kids, so I will skip it completely." I understand the concern. But the answer is not to reject half-rim. The answer is to place it correctly. A half-rim TR90 frame still uses a flexible, hypoallergenic frame material. It still bends and returns to shape. It just needs thinner lenses and an older wearer. So we recommend it as a sub-line, not a core line. Keep full-rim as your durable eyewear for active kids. Use half-rim to keep the older ones in your brand instead of losing them to adult ranges.
Wie verbessern TPEE-Bügel Komfort und Sicherheit bei beiden Brillengestelltypen?
A baby-product buyer from Australia once asked me why our temples felt like rubber while the front stayed firm. That question is the whole story of TPEE.

TR90 gets most of the attention in kids' optical frames. TPEE is less visible in product listings. But on our production line, TPEE is what makes a frame feel safe on a small face. It is the preferred material for the "unbreakable" kids' spectacles designed for infants and toddlers, because it stretches like rubber and comes back.
Where the Two Materials Sit on the Frame
| Eigenschaft | TR90 (front) | TPEE (Bügel) |
|---|---|---|
| Beste Verwendung | Firm, light, smooth | Soft-touch, rubber-like |
| Flexibilität | Memory bend, returns to shape | Higher elasticity, near-unbreakable |
| Rolle | Holds lens shape and prescription | Absorbs twisting, grips head |
| Hautverträglichkeit | Hypoallergen, BPA-frei | Hypoallergen, BPA-frei |
| Bestes Alter | 4–14 | Toddlers through 12 |
How We Build a TR90-TPEE Hybrid Frame
- We injection-mold the TR90 front first. This keeps the rim groove precise so lenses sit true.
- We mold the TPEE-Bügel with a gradient color, for example white near the hinge fading to solid purple at the tip.
- We add small perforated dots along the temple. These let the temple flex more evenly.
- We form looped or curved ear hooks at the tips so the frame wraps the ear and does not slide off.
- We fit the hinge. Many of our newer full-rim designs use screwless hinge technology, a snap-hinge with no tiny screws to loosen or become a choking hazard.
Temple Features That Matter to Parents
Soft TPEE temples work in both full-rim and half-rim frames. On a full-rim toddler prescription glasses 4 design, we often add adjustable elastic headbands for babies who pull at their glasses. On a half-rim junior sport frame, the same TPEE temple keeps the frame stable during running. Newer dual-injection methods even let us bond a rigid TR90 inner core with a soft TPEE outer layer in one part. That gives lens stability inside and comfort outside. This is why I tell buyers to ask not just "full-rim or half-rim?" but "what temple, hinge, and nose-pad system comes with it?" Flexible children's eyewear is a system, not a single material.
Fifteen years of making eyewear taught us one lesson: brands stumble by picking on looks alone. Age, prescription, and how the child plays should decide the frame.

Our factory in Taizhou runs around 120 workers in a 5S-managed workshop. We ship to buyers in more than 20 countries. Most of them are children's or baby product brands, importers, or optical companies. They do not want the cheapest frame. They want a frame that will not come back. Here is the decision path I walk through with them.
Match the Frame Type to the Wearer
| Your target wearer | Recommended type | Warum |
|---|---|---|
| Säuglinge und Kleinkinder | Full-rim TR90 front with TPEE temples, optional elastic headband | Softest touchpoints, near-unbreakable temples, safe if chewed |
| Ages 4–12, everyday school | Full-rim TR90, rounded rectangle or round | Lens protection, built-in color, around 12 g weight |
| Aktive oder Outdoor-Kinder | Full-rim sport wrap with looped TPEE temples | Stable fit, durable eyewear for active kids |
| High prescription or myopia control | Full-rim TR90 with deeper rim groove | Supports thick lenses and correct centration |
| Older juniors, style-conscious | Half-rim TR90 sub-line | Slimmer look, wider lower field of vision |
| Öko-positionierte Marken | Full-rim Bio-TR90 | Castor-oil-derived variant for a renewable story |
A Low-Risk Launch Path
Our first differentiator is choice. With roughly 800 existing styles, a new brand can launch without heavy mold investment. You test the market with lower risk. I usually suggest this order:
- Pick three to five full-rim styles across the 40–48 mm width range.
- Add one TR90-TPEE hybrid for the youngest age group.
- Add one half-rim junior style only if your customers already buy for older kids.
- Choose custom colors, logo placement, lens options, and retail-ready packaging.
- Approve samples, then move to bulk with our standard quality control.
Our second differentiator is real flexible-material expertise. We do not treat TPEE and TR90 as cheap plastic. We tune them for a child's face. Our third is full OEM/ODM support. Custom colors, logos, UV400 or polarisierte Gläser 5, packaging, and accessories all come from one factory, with clear communication and on-time delivery. For a procurement manager in Japan or Europe, that means one partner, not five.
Schlussfolgerung
Wrong rim style means broken lenses and returns. Full-rim TR90 with TPEE temples protects most kids; half-rim serves juniors. Our 800+ designs let you launch safely.
